Disney Newport Bay Club Character Meet & Greets
If you follow us on our socials or YouTube, you’ll know one of our favorite things to do is meet characters, and one of the perks of staying at Disney’s hotels is the daily character meet and greets. At Disney’s Newport Bay Club, we got the chance to meet characters in their exclusive, nautical-themed outfits you won’t find anywhere else!
The character meet and greets at Newport Bay Club take place in the West Wing, just passed the Captain Quarters bar. Throughout our stays at the hotel, we’ve had the pleasure of meeting Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto all dressed in their unique, nature-inspired attire!
We always love the character meet and greets at the hotel as they’re the perfect way to start or end your Disney day. Throughout all of our visits Newport Bay Cub has always held its character meet and greets in an evening starting around 7:30 pm. However, we always recommend checking the character meet and greet board for the exact times when you check-in.
The hotel is also the only hotel meet and greet where we are yet to see a Disney Photographer on hand to capture those extra special moments.
Disney Hotel Newport Bay Club Location
Unlike the Disney hotels in other parks around the world, all the hotels at Disneyland Paris are very close to the park, as you can see on the map above.
15-Minute Walking Distance from the park
Disney’s Newport Bay Club is located at the top of Lake Disney, offering a scenic and peaceful retreat just a short distance from the magic of the parks. The hotel is the 4th closest hotel to the parks and has a dedicated security area in to Disney Village and the parks. The other security gate on Lake Disney is located on the other side of the lake and serves Hotel New York Art of Marvel, Sequoia Lodge, Cheyenne, and Santa Fe!
On our visit, we timed the walk from our room to the entrance of Disneyland Paris, which only took 14 minutes. This includes passing through security (non-peak time) and walking through Disney Village and a leisurely pace.
Although it is very close to the parks, guests can choose to take the free shuttle bus service to and from the hotel if they wish. During our visits we found Newport Bay Club has its own shuttle and picked guests up around every 15-20 minutes, ensuring quick and easy transfers to the hotel.
Disney Newport Bay Club Check-in
Every time we visit Disneyland Paris, we make it a point to catch the earliest flight possible to maximize our time in the parks. This often means taking a 6 am flight to Paris, allowing us to check into our hotel and be in the parks by 11 am!
Unlike when you enter the hotel from the parks, you don’t see the lake but instead we were greeted by the sight of its beautiful, nautical-themed facade. As we entered the grand lobby and were surprised to see the check-in queue was empty. We did see the siz-zag rope queue which gave us the impression that this may not always be the case!
The Cast Member assisting us at the check-in desk was exceptionally warm and helpful, swiftly processing our check-in. They handed us an envelope containing a detailed hotel map and our Magic Passes, which served as our room keys. For those who purchased a Hotel & Ticket package, these Magic Passes are also your park tickets and include your meal plan or any pre-booked character dining experiences. The whole check-in process was smooth, and the Cast Member was explained everything about the hotel, from where our room was located, to details about the swimming pool, bars and restaurants.
With over 1000 rooms and long corridors, the hotel map was great to help us navigate the hotel and find our room. We had chosen a standard room and the Cast Member showed how to get to our room and drew a guide on the map. Since we didn’t have a meal plan, she also went over the different dining options available at the hotel and pointed us to the concierge desk, where we could book restaurant reservations if we hadn’t made any prior arrangements.
After confirming all these details she checked if our room was ready and unfortunately, she said it wasn’t but advised us on where the luggage store was to allow us to leave our bags and that we would receive an email or text message when our room is ready. She also said if we didn’t get this by 3 pm we could return to the check-in desk at any time and they’ll be able to check the status of our room. As Disneyland Paris officially says rooms are available from 3 pm onward, so we never expect our room to be ready when we arrive so early in the morning.
The luggage room at Newport Bay Club is located back outside just to the left of the hotel’s entrance. There was a short queue to drop our bags, but after about 10 minutes we exchanged our bags for some luggage cards and headed to the parks.
Our Disney Newport Bay Club Room
Before we talk about our room and experience we wanted to share with you the room options available at Disney Newport Bay Club, and surprisingly there’s not a huge difference in cost per night when we visited, please see the screenshot below.
- First up, we’ve got the Standard Room. This room type has either 2 double beds sleeping up to 4 people or 1 double bed sleeping up to 2 people providing options for both couples and families.
- The hotel also offers Lake View Rooms facing Lake Disney. Unlike the lakeside rooms at Sequoia, the Lake View rooms offer amazing views over Lake Disney. These rooms feature 2 double beds.
- The final room type is the Superior Room with Terrace which offers ground floor rooms with a small outdoor space. The room features 2 double beds and sleeps up to 4 people.
- Private reception desk
- Bathrobes and slippers
- Iron & ironing board
- Sweet and savoury snacks from 4 pm to 5:45 pm
- Access to the private lounge from 12 pm to 10 pm, serving hot and soft drinks
- American buffet breakfast from 7 am to 11 am,
- Mini-fridge in each room
Now, let’s talk about our room! We had booked a standard room which was located on the 3rd floor of the Newport Bay Club. After checking in, we headed towards the elevators, conveniently located just past the grand lobby area. This seemed to be the longest walk we had in any hotel to get to our room, but this gave us time to take in the charming maritime touches.
The room number signage was clear and we had no trouble locating it. As we entered, we were greeted by a spacious room. The room’s subtle nautical theme, with its blues and whites, made us feel instantly relaxed.
Arriving at our room…
- Coffee machine and kettle
- Hairdryer (basic) fixed to the bathroom wall
- No fridge
- Single used plastics in bathroom
Our first impressions upon entering our room at Disney’s Newport Bay Club were overwhelmingly positive. The nautical theme was immediately evident, with decor reminding us of a grand ocean liner, and fans of Disney’s Yacht Club Resort at Walt Disney World would love the design and style.
The furniture, styled to look like vintage travel trunks, and the navy blue and white color scheme created a charming maritime atmosphere.
Initially, we were both impressed by the room’s decor and comfort. The room featured two comfortable double beds with Mickey-shaped wooden headboards, adorned with crisp white linens and a variety of pillows that catered to different preferences. The beds here are on the firmer side but we found them comfortable and slept well each night.
We appreciated the cozy maritime lighting fixtures next to the beds, complete with illustrated ship anchors. The large window, although offering a less-than-magical view of the hotel’s maintenance areas, still allowed loads of natural light to fill the room. We did have a quick chat why we didn’t pay the slight upcharge for the Lake View because that would have been the perfect addition to the room.
The room included a TV with a selection of English-language channels, a dressing table with a mirror, and ample storage space with a chest of drawers and a separate dressing area. This area also housed a safe, an ironing board, and an iron, which came in handy. One notable drawback was the limited number of electrical outlets, with none conveniently located by the nightstands. However, like we saw in Sequoia Lodge, the hotel had introduced a large charging block with multiple plug sockets and USB charging units.
In-room amenities…
When it comes to in-room amenities, our room was equipped with a kettle and 2 glass bottles of water, along with iron and ironing board in the wardrobe.
Additionally, towels and toiletries are included within the bathroom. Unlike some of the other hotels at Disneyland Paris the body wash, shampoo, and conditioner were provided in single use plastic bottles with Mickey heads. These were great keepsakes for our stay!
A hairdryer is also attached to the wall in the bathroom, however, as always this is very basic and low-powered meaning it’s not the best.
Disney Newport Bay Club Restaurants & Bars
When we checked in the Cast Member explained the dining options available to us at Disney’s Newport Bay Club hotel.
- Yacht Club (table service)
- Cape Cod (all you can eat buffet)
- Captain’s Quarters Bar and Lounge
Yacht Club
The Yacht Club is a table service restaurant, offering a more upscale dining experience with its sophisticated, nautical-themed decor and attentive service.
Having dined at the Yacht Club Restaurant, we can confidently say it’s a fantastic choice for seafood lovers. The menu features a variety of delightful options such as warm scallops, mussels, clam chowder, fillet of cod, and seafood linguine.
Each dish we tried was prepared to perfection, with the warm scallops being a particular highlight. While the emphasis is on seafood, the restaurant also offers some non-seafood options for those with different preferences. However, it’s worth noting that the restaurant does have a noticeable seafood smell, which might be a consideration for some guests.
Cape Cod
Cape Cod Restaurant at Disney’s Newport Bay Club is a fantastic choice for those who enjoy a variety of flavors in a relaxed, buffet-style setting. As an all-you-can-eat buffet, Cape Cod offers an impressive selection of dishes to satisfy all tastes. Seafood lovers will appreciate the fresh and delicious options, including prawns, smoked salmon, and seafood salads, which are consistently well-prepared and flavorful.
The buffet also caters to those who prefer non-seafood options, with a range of meats, pastas, and vegetarian dishes, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
The nautical decor of Cape Cod adds to the overall dining experience, evoking the charm of a seaside eatery. The atmosphere is casual and family-friendly, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed meal after a day in the parks. With its wide selection of food and inviting ambiance, Cape Cod Restaurant is a delightful dining option at Newport Bay Club.
The buffet at Cape Cod is priced €45 per adult and €25 per child, making it on par as the other buffets at Disneyland Paris.
Captain Quarters
Captain’s Quarters at Disney’s Newport Bay Club is a hidden gem for those seeking a relaxing atmosphere and delightful drinks. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with nautical decor that perfectly complements the maritime theme of the hotel.
The highlight of our visit was the Mauna Loa, a refreshing pineapple rum drink. The drink menu offers a variety of cocktails and mocktails to suit different tastes, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
With its laid-back ambiance, friendly service, and delicious drinks, Captain’s Quarters is a must-visit at Newport Bay Club.
Disney Newport Bay Club swimming pool
Ah, the Nantucket Pool at Disney’s Newport Bay Club—what a delightful retreat it turned out to be! Nestled on the ground floor within its own dedicated building, the pool area is flooded with natural light thanks to its expansive windows. It was such a treat to relax by the pool and catch glimpses of guests strolling along Lake Disney, adding to the serene ambiance.
The pool itself was a true highlight, seamlessly transitioning from indoors to outdoors through a small water canal. The water was pleasantly heated and as the sun set, the outdoor section was sealed off, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere.
One of my favorite discoveries was the small hot tub, tucked away for those seeking a bit of luxurious relaxation. Divided into sections for privacy, it was a soothing haven after a day of adventure. Nearby, families enjoyed in the children’s pool, and after our swim we couldn’t resist exploring the impressive faux ship. Hidden away beyond the pool entrance, we walked up a few steps and stood aboard the ship that doubled as a panoramic viewing platform
The convenience factor was spot on: towels were readily available at the pool reception, and a friendly Cast Member guided us through the locker system. Securing our belongings in the lockers was a breeze with the simple numerical locks provided.
One key point to note is that the pool has a mixed-gender locker room with individual changing cubicles, this wasn’t an issue for us as the individual cubicles ensured privacy but this could be an issue for some guests.
With ample lounge chairs both indoors and outdoors, relaxation was never in short supply. We found ourselves alternating between soaking up the sun outside and unwinding in the cozy indoor area. It was a perfect way to unwind and recharge, surrounded by the picturesque beauty of Newport Bay Club.
